ABOUT

Shadowrunners

Snarg.png

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Shadowrunners appear as shifting masses of dark mist, smoke, or vapor. Their forms may change color according to emotion, and bright white eyes frequently emerge from within their swirling bodies. Their voices often sound as several overlapping voices speaking at once.

TRAITS / TEMPERMENT:

Secretive, intensely loyal, purposeful, and bound by ancient custom. Shadowrunners possess an unusual conception of duty: once a lifelong bond is sworn, service and protection become inseparable from identity. They value oaths, discretion, competence, and loyalty, and their elders maintain traditions that predate their alliance with the Eversteels. Their dry humor and individuality emerge once trust is established, but violating their customs—particularly those surrounding bonding—is treated with great seriousness.

ABILITIES / ADAPTATION:

They can move rapidly between seen and unseen states, vanish within darkness, hover, manipulate their mist-like forms, and act with considerable physical force despite lacking solid bodies in the conventional sense.

SOCIETY / CULTURE:

They possess a strong sense of oath, duty, loyalty, and memory. Shadowrunners may form lifelong bonds with members of the Eversteel family, taking the place of that person’s natural shadow and swearing to protect them until death.

RELATIONS WITH OTHERS:

Their closest historical relationship is with the Eversteel line. After Anodon spared the life of a defeated Shadowrunner, the creature invoked an ancient custom and pledged itself to him. Other Shadowrunners subsequently bonded with his family, finding the sense of purpose they had long sought. They later helped Anodon's people defeat the mountain Brutes, creating enduring hostility between those peoples. To most of Rialta they remain mysterious, feared, and rarely encountered outside their protective bonds.

HISTORY / LORE:

Shadowrunners are said to have arisen from the remains or breath of a fallen shadow dragon within the Shadowlands. After Anodon spared a defeated shadowrunner, that act of mercy led to an alliance in which shadows bonded with members of the Eversteel family and helped drive the mountain brutes from what became Cinfeld Heights.
