ABOUT

Snarg.png

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Great Razormaws are enormous predatory fish native to Rialta’s oceans. Their name strongly implies a broad, heavily armed mouth lined with formidable cutting teeth, while their overall form would be built for powerful movement through open water. Unlike the heavily plated Leaping Hardshells encountered near the Crystal Sea, Razormaws are best treated visually as true apex fish rather than armored shore creatures.

ABILITIES / ADAPTATIONS:

Their defining adaptation is the enormous jaw implied by the name Razormaw, supported by a powerful body suited to sustained swimming and sudden acceleration. They would be well adapted to deep water and substantial pressure changes, particularly given their ancient association with the people of Padiun and that civilization’s mastery of pressure and fluidity.

ORIGIN / HABITAT:

TRAITS / BEHAVIOR:

Razormaws are large marine hunters associated with the deeper and more dangerous reaches of the Crystal Sea. They would be solitary or loosely ranging predators rather than herd animals, relying on size, speed, and a devastating bite to overpower prey. The manuscript calls the Crystal Sea both beautiful and dangerous and specifically notes that many formidable creatures inhabit it.

HISTORY / LORE:

Great Razormaws carry considerably more historical importance than ordinary wildlife. Bengent explains that the people of ancient Padiun were believed to have descended from the Great Razormaw fish of ages past. The species is therefore tied directly to the origins of the Padiun people and to one of Rialta’s lost great civilizations. Edwin also remarks that Razormaw makes excellent soup, suggesting the animal was historically hunted or harvested despite its formidable nature.
