ABOUT

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Hoppers are small, round-bodied creatures with long, springy legs built for explosive jumps. They occur in bright colors and can gather in such numbers that a moving group resembles colored hail bouncing across a trail.
ABILITIES / ADAPTATIONS:
Their elongated, elastic legs allow them to launch themselves rapidly across uneven, wet terrain. This powerful jumping ability appears to be their primary defense against predators.

ORIGIN / HABITAT:
TRAITS / BEHAVIOR:
Hoppers travel in large groups through marshy vegetation and are particularly active around mucklands. Their erratic bounding makes them highly visible despite their small size.
HISTORY / LORE:
Hoppers occupy an important place in the muckland food chain. Bogs prey heavily upon them, especially before twinrise, when the water is said to erupt with feeding activity. Edwin even notes that bogs smaller than some hoppers will still attempt to eat them.
Bog bait
Aquatic Predator
Small
Skittish, energetic, non-aggressive
Insectivore
Mucklands, wetlands, and dense brush near bog habitats
