Physical Description
A lean, sinewy man with a chiseled face, deep brown eyes, and a mane of dark ebony hair. Even before becoming king, Thomrick carries himself with an intense, disciplined presence. He is frequently seen working around the forge or Eversteel relics, often marked by soot and exertion rather than royal ornament.
Abilities / Skills
Thomrick is a formidable warrior, tactician, ruler, and Eversteel craftsman. He successfully dons Anodon’s legendary armor, wields the Eversteel blade against Longtooth, and becomes celebrated for surviving a confrontation no one believed possible. He is also highly knowledgeable in dragon lore, military strategy, governance, and the forging of Eversteel. As king, he establishes the Trials of Ascension to ensure future heirs are tested in scholarship, combat, leadership, and character before assuming the throne.
Thomrick
Personality
Brave, intelligent, hardworking, fiercely loyal, demanding, proud, and deeply burdened by responsibility. Thomrick is capable of warmth, humor, and even playfulness, but years of kingship and fear of another dragon attack harden him into a stern and often overbearing father. Annla describes him as someone who rarely sleeps, constantly worries about Rialta’s future, and expects too much from both himself and those around him. Beneath the rigidity is a man motivated by love for his family and terror of failing them.
History / lore
As the son of Cinfeld, Thomrick grew up frustrated by his father’s refusal to continue forging Eversteel and by what he viewed as excessive caution. When Longtooth attacked Cinfeld Heights, Thomrick secretly took Anodon’s armor and sword and chose to confront the dragon himself rather than allow his father to die defending the city.
His survival and victory transformed him into The Bane of Dragons and eventually placed him on the throne. As king, Thomrick embraced Eversteel, expanded his family’s power, and became determined to prepare Rialta for the dragons’ return. That same determination shaped how he raised Bengent, whom he pushed relentlessly toward duty, discipline, and succession.
Thomrick’s greatest conflict is ultimately internal: his desire to preserve the Eversteel legacy repeatedly clashes with the independence of his children. By the story’s end, he begins to recognize that the same pressure he once resented from Cinfeld has been passed on through him. His admission that failure can be a teacher marks a major change in the man who once saw it only as weakness.
